This blog explains what is meant by ‘bias’ in research and then goes on to provide explanation of two types of bias in particular which may affect research: 1) attrition bias and 2) detection bias. The blog explains that it is almost impossible to completely remove bias, but that it is important to try to minimise bias as much as possible. It also describes way in which these two forms of bias can be minimised e.g. by taking account of the participants who drop out of your study (to minimise attrition bias) and by blinding participants in trials (to minimise detection bias). Students 4 Best Evidence (S4BE) is a growing network of students from around the world, from school age to university, who are interested in learning more about evidence-based healthcare (EBH).  The network is supported by the UK Cochrane Centre.  In addition to the website, the S4BE has a Facebook group and Twitter feed. For more information, read Selena Ryan-Vigs blog which introduces Students 4 Best Evidence.
